Gwyddion - Visualization and analysis of data from Scanning Probe Microscops
This is the next article about interesting programs on Linux OS. In this one I'm going to present you Gwyddion application, which is useful for analysing and visualizing data obtained by SPM - Scanning Probe Microscops like Atomic Force Microscop etc. I know not everyone has possibility of using these microscops, so I append to this article exemplary file with data from research on gold sample done at the university by me and friends of mine.
What is the Gwyddion?
As I said before, Gwyddion is the open source application for analysing and visualizing data obtained by SPM. I cannot comparise this program with any comercial application, because I haven't used any, but I think it has really many options even though it is completly free software.
What Gwyddion can do?
This is a list of same of its options:- 3D topographic view
- Saving as an image
- Colour palette
- Chart settings (axes etc.)
- Measuring distance and direction between points
- Correcting rotation
- Extracting profiles
- Getting statistics of selected area
- Minimal and maximal values
- Averge value
- Surface area
- Inclinations
- Creating statistical functions
- Creating row/columns statistical functions
- Calculating roughness parameters
- Cropping data
- Filters, masks, image corrections
Where can I get Gwyddion?
This application i stored in the repositories, so we can give command:
Gold sample
For these people who don't have access to any of the scanning probe microscops, but also who want to tray Gwyddion in action, I append proper file to this note. This file contains data from research on the gold sample. Its topography was quite diversified so it might be interesting.Download: AFM - Gold sample
